The first day of school is always exciting with getting to meet new teachers, new friends and a fresh new start. This year we are thrilled to announce that each grade 9 student at KCI will be issued a brand new Chromebook on the first day of school, Sept 6th. A Chromebook is a mobile computer, like a laptop, that runs on Google’s Chrome Operating System. These machines are  designed to be used primarily while connected to the internet. They are optimized to allow the use of Google applications (i.e. Google Drive, Calendar, Gmail, Google Classroom, etc.). WRDSB students already have Google Apps accounts provided to them by the Board which they will use on their Chromebooks.

The WRDSB’s 1:1 Chromebook project aims to place a Chromebook device in the hands of each registered grade 9 student at KCI and every other public secondary school in the region. Grade 9s will receive their Chromebook at the end of the day and are to bring it home in its original packaging. An information letter and Chromebook 1:1 Acknowledgement Form will be sent or can be downloaded here regarding care and expectations around its use. The form should be returned the next day with student and parent signature. The Chromebook should be charged each night by students at home, be brought to each class each day, and will stay with each student for their entire WRDSB high school career. students will receive detailed information and support on how to use and care for their Chromebooks in their MSIP classes as well as from their classroom teachers including the WRDSB’s Responsible Use Policy

The two link s below are electronic versions of the paper documents sent home with each student’s new “Dell Chromebook 11”.
