IN-PERSON LEARNING UPDATES

Staggered Start for Secondary Students

Secondary students will be returning to in-person learning in a staggered format with the exception of students in the ACE, Bridges and ESL/ELD Programs. These students will begin attending full-time on September 7th.

  • Grade 9 and 10 students only will attend on Tuesday, September 7th.
  • Grade 11 and 12 students only will attend on Wednesday, September 8th.
  • All students will attend together from Thursday, September 9th onwards.

Students participating in Alternative Education Programs in Cambridge or Waterloo will be contacted by educators from their respective programs regarding the first day of in-person attendance.

Daily Schedule and Semester Schedule

Secondary students who are learning in person at school in September will see some changes from last year. We heard from our students and their families that it was challenging to study one course each day because of the volume of material being covered. With this in mind, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) will divide the school year into modified semesters for secondary students in September 2021.

Students will attend school in person every day, together with their classmates. Secondary students will be taking two courses each day, with one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Students will receive 150 minutes of instruction daily on each subject, with a 40 minute nutrition break in between.
