February 9th, 2022
Dear KCI Families,
We are so happy to have our students back in our semester 2 classes. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some important dates that are coming up this semester. We have found from our experience in the first semester that these days can be tremendously beneficial to our students’ well-being and provide an opportunity for catch up and deeper understanding on the topics covered in class.
Instructional Support Days: April 19, 20 and June 22, 23, 24
Secondary schools will not revert to exam days with the Semester 2 schedule. Instructional Support Days will continue to be offered as they are currently scheduled on our ministry-approved school calendar. The dates for the Semester 2 Instructional Support Days are April 19 and 20, and June 22, 23 and 24. On these instructional support days, students will work asynchronously or synchronously from home, depending on their needs. No new work or new assessments will be assigned as this is a chance to catch up and ensure understanding of the course material prior to the completion of the course.
ACE Classes: Students in our ACE classes will continue to attend in-person on Instructional Support Days to help ensure that they have the support needed to continue their learning.
Blended Learning Days: February 16, March 23, April 27, and May 18
In November 2021, the Ministry of Education announced that all schools in the province will implement a fully de-streamed and single-streamed Grade 9 Program. This new approach will ensure high academic expectations and less program restrictions for all our learners.
In order to prepare and implement the new Grade 9 program and support students’ achievement and well-being, all WRDSB secondary schools will offer 4 blended learning days this semester: February 16, March 23, April 27, and May 18.
During the mornings of these days (8:20 am to 10:55 am), learning is remote and asynchronous. Attendance will be taken and students are expected to access their classes’ virtual learning environments (Google Classroom or D2L/Brightspace) and complete the work provided by their teachers for all of their courses. Students should plan to spend approximately 37 minutes for each of their courses.
During the afternoons of these days (11:35 am to 2:10 pm), learning is remote and synchronous. Attendance will be taken and students are expected to be available to virtually meet with their classes as described by their teachers following the schedule below.
Attendance will be taken on these days, but students are not required to attend in-person and will have learning provided remotely through their virtual learning environments (Google Classroom or D2L/Brightspace).
ACE Classes: Students in our ACE classes will continue to attend in-person on Blended Learning Days to help ensure that they have the support needed to continue their learning.
