A message from the Region of Waterloo Public Health:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students in grade 9 or 10 may not have been able to complete their grade 7 school program vaccines provided by Public Health in the school. These vaccines include Hepatitis B, Meningococcal ACYW-135, Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
If your child is in grade 9 or 10 this school year, they are eligible to complete their school vaccine series.
Please note that Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines require 2 doses (min 6 months apart) to fully protect against these diseases. Meningococcal ACYW-135 is provided as a one-time dose. Meningococcal vaccine is required as per the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
Due to COVID-19, eligibility for some vaccines has been extended:
-
Students born in 2006 and 2007 are eligible for Hepatitis B vaccine until August 31, 2022
-
Girls born in 2002 and 2003 remain eligible for the HPV vaccine until August 31, 2022
-
Students in Grades 7 or later remain eligible until Meningococcal ACYW-135 vaccine is received
