KCI Leadership students present our second school dance of the year.  The theme is Miami Lights!  Here are some important details that students and parents should know.  If you have additional questions that aren’t answered here, please reach out to our Leadership teacher and dance organizer, Ms. Gingerich, at abbey_gingerich@wrdsb.ca.
  • When: March 22, 2023 7-10 pm
  • Where: Federation Hall, University of Waterloo.  Click here for the google map!
  • Parking: There is a paid parking lot next to the venue. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the venue.  Click here for UW Parking Info!
  • Ticket info: Every student needs a ticket in order to attend the event. Ticket sales are March 6 to March 10 at KCI in the auditorium at lunch. March 6 is BLITZ day so tickets are 20$. March 7-10 tickets are 25$. If a student needs financial support to purchase a ticket, they should speak to their Vice Principal.
  • Paperwork:  All students must have a signed KCI Behaviour Contract for Miami Lights by a parent or guardian before they can buy a ticket. Paper copies of the Behaviour Contract were handed out to students last week.  Extra paper copies of the form are available in the main office.
  • Activity Fee:  All students must have paid the Student Activity fee in order to purchase a ticket. The fee can be paid on School Day or in the Main Office.
  • Non-KCI Guests: in an effort to prioritize the KCI community, guest contracts will be available starting on March 6. Completed guest contracts must be brought in March 7-10 in order to purchase a ticket.  The guest contract (paper copy) must be signed by the guest’s Vice Principal or a similar recognized authority at their home school.
  • What to Wear:  This year’s theme is Miami Lights: disco- beach- neon! We encourage all students to dress as their best selves! Many students will wear dresses, skirts, suits, dress pants etc. Some students may choose to wear heels; we encourage comfortable footwear for dancing! The theme is just a suggestion, not mandatory.
  • Food & Drinks:  There will be water, pop, and light snacks available at no cost. Students do not need to bring additional money to the event.
  • Safety:  Security and an emergency response team will be provided by the University of Waterloo. A Waterloo Region police officer will also be in attendance at the dance. Many KCI staff and administrators are attending as supervisors and will be circulating throughout the dance all evening.
  • Doors:  Doors will open at 7 pm and close at 8:30 pm – this means that all students must arrive before 8:30 pm.  If a student chooses to leave the dance they will not be permitted reentry. The dance ends promptly at 10 pm. Students are asked to head home after the dance and not loiter on UW campus.  Federation Hall closes at the end of the dance, so students will be required to wait outside.
  • Bag Checks:  University Security staff will be searching all bags and purses upon entry.  We ask that all large bags be left at home. Bags and small purses will be checked at the coat check in a secure location and cannot be accessed during the dance.  Students with medical needs should speak to a staff supervisor when they arrive.
  • Venue Rights:  As a rental, we are guests to Federation Hall and University of Waterloo.  UW security and staff have the right to deny entry as well as eject students from their venue if they deem it necessary to do so (see Behaviour Contract for conditions).  KCI staff will be notified for support.
  • KCI Leadership is responsible for all decorations and promotions of the event.
  • Local DJ White Gold is providing music and lighting.
