Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year. We’re excited to share important school start-up details with our students and families.

Modified First Day of School Schedule

The first day of school this year will be Tuesday, September 8th! Our first day schedule will look different than in past years. All grade 9 students will get to know KCI by participating in orientation activities in the morning.  

Regular classes for all students will begin at 11:55 a.m.  This will help ensure a strong start to the school year. Grade 9 students should meet in the Auditorium at 8:20 a.m., where they will meet their homeroom teachers. Students in all other grades (10, 11, 12) should report to their first-period classrooms at 11:55 a.m.

8:20 – 10:55 am

Grade 9 Orientation Activities

– All grade 9 students should report to the Auditorium for 8:20 am

 Students in Grades 10, 11, and 12, who arrive at school earlier than 10:55 am, should report to the cafeteria.
10:55 – 11:55 am Lunch
11:55 – 12:30 pm Block A
12:35 – 1:10 pm Block B
1:15 – 1:50 pm Block C
1:55 – 2:30 pm Block D

Please note:

  • ACE classes will follow a regular schedule.
  • Transportation will run at regular times.

For the remainder of the week, students will follow their regular Week 1 timetable – A, B, Lunch, C, D.

You’ll note that on our KCI Daily Schedule and our KCI School Year Calendar Week 1 is colour coded in red, and Week 2 is colour coded in yellow.

Student Timetables

We will be sending student timetables to each student’s WRDSB Gmail account early next week. 

Grade 9 Chromebook Distribution

Grade 9 students will receive their Chromebooks on the first day of school during the Orientation activities. Grade 9 students are reminded that they must complete their Opt-In form (on School Day) to be assigned a Chromebook. 

Locker Distribution

Students will receive locker information during their Block A class.  Students who want a locker must bring a combination lock to school.  Keyed locks are not permitted.  Students are not permitted to share lockers.  A limited number of locks will be available for purchase in the main office.

Student Forms & Paperwork – Due by the end of the first week of school!

  • A School-Day message will be sent on September 8th with links to online forms that must be filled out by all families.
  • Medical Plan of Care forms (if applicable) will be mailed to families. Please complete these forms and return them promptly. 

Activity Fees

All activity fees should be paid on School-Day; however, students needing to pay cash should see our Activities Secretary, Ms. Poulin, in the main office to make payment.

  • KCI Activity Fee ($40) – MUST be paid for all students planning to join a team, club, or attend an event or school dance at KCI.
  • KCI Yearbook – The price and sale period for this year’s yearbook will be announced in the near future.

Note:  Students who require financial assistance with fees should see Ms. Brown, our Activities VP, in the main office to make arrangements for support.  Families/caregivers can reach Ms. Brown at crystal_brown@wrdsb.ca.

School Bus Information

Families should visit the Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) website for information or to inquire about school bus access.  Transportation details are now available.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Location

Student drop-off and pick-up must take place in the Don McLaren Arena front parking lot (accessible via Green Street).  Click here for detailed parking lot locations.  Absolutely no drop-off or pick-up in the King Street lot.

Student Parking

  • Students who drive to school and require parking should purchase a Student Parking Permit ($50 per semester) on School-Day (listed as a ‘product’). You will need to know your license plate number.
  • The student parking area is located at the intersection of King St. & Green St., beside our sports field (across the street from KCI).

Picture Day

This year’s picture day will take place on Friday, September 18th.  We will distribute details for photo package orders to families as the date approaches.  All students must have their picture taken for school records, even if they are not purchasing photos.
